Rubber straps as a consumable

Rubber straps hold covers, panels and light loads by tension, so they spend their life stretched and are usually the first thing to give up. Rubber also hardens and cracks with sunlight and cold, which means a strap that looks intact can still snap under load. Check the strap where it hooks on, since that is where it wears, and keep a spare rather than stretching one strap further than its length allows.
