Why the ball gets a cover

A tow ball that stands uncovered collects road dirt on top of the grease, and that mixture transfers to hands, clothing and anything you load past it. A cover keeps the ball clean between trips and keeps rain off the surface. Wipe the ball before the cover goes on rather than trapping grit underneath it, and replace a cover that has split, since one that no longer grips the ball will be gone by the next trip.
