How a grab hook is used
A grab hook holds a chain link in its throat, which is how a chain is shortened without adding a separate adjuster, so the opening width decides which link will seat properly. Pull in line with the hook rather than at an angle, and take it out of service if the throat has opened up or the seat is worn.
