Ball studs and gas springs

The end piece of a gas spring clips onto the ball, so the spring can pivot as it extends and retracts instead of being loaded sideways. The thread has to suit the mounting and the length decides how far the ball sits out from it, so a stud is chosen on both figures. Keep the ball clean when a new end piece is pressed on, and check that the stud is tight in its thread. An inch thread and a metric thread of a similar size are not interchangeable, so the thread has to be identified rather than assumed.
