What the equalizing yoke does

The yoke sits between the pull coming from the coupling and the wires that run out to the wheel brakes, and it pivots so that pull is divided between them instead of loading one brake harder than the other. That makes it a useful check after adjusting the brakes: with the brakes set evenly the yoke stands square to the direction of pull, and a yoke sitting skewed points back at the adjustment rather than at the yoke. Check that it pivots freely and that the seats and pins are not worn.
