Why a corner protector goes under the lashing

The protector sits over the corner of the load so the lashing runs across a formed face instead of a sharp edge. That keeps the edge from cutting into 50 mm webbing, which loses strength quickly once the weave is damaged, and it spreads the pressure so the corner of the load is not crushed. Position the protector before the lashing is tensioned and check it has stayed put once the tension is on.
