Replacing a lamp or only the lens
A cracked lens can often be replaced on its own, without changing the whole lamp. See spare lenses. If the lamp itself has failed, or water has reached the contacts, the lamp needs replacing.
Finding the fault
Intermittent lighting faults often sit in the connection rather than in the lamp itself. A light tester checks each function from the plug end and tells you whether the fault is in the vehicle, the cable or the lamp. For a trailer with no working lighting at all, a complete lighting kit is often simpler than tracing the old wiring. Reflectors are required alongside the lighting on most trailers. See reflectors.
