Brake shoes
Brake shoes and complete shoe sets for trailer wheel brakes. Match the brake dimension and replace both wheels on an axle at the same time.
VALERYD supplies 49 sets of brake shoes for braked trailers, in 14 brake sizes from 135x30 to 300x80.
Brake shoes are a wear part. They need checking regularly and replacing when braking drops off, when the lining is worn down, or when the trailer brakes unevenly from side to side. Most of the range is AL-KO, BPW, Knott, with GSM, Peitz, Nieper and Humbaur alongside. Fast delivery from our own warehouse in Sweden.
How to choose the right brake shoes
Which brake shoes you need depends on the wheel brake model, the brake dimension, the make, the mounting and the markings on the existing shoes. Work in that order. The dimension narrows the field, the make decides the fitting, and the markings confirm it.
Measuring the old shoes
Measure the diameter and the width of the existing shoes and the brake drum. Note any part number on the old shoe. The brake ID on the backplate identifies exactly which brake model the trailer has, which settles the make and the fitting in one step.
Brake shoe sets
Brake shoes are sold as sets covering one wheel. A brake shoe set holds the two shoes that work against the drum together, since replacing only one gives uneven braking.
Complete kits
Of the 49 sets in the range, 7 are complete kits covering two wheels. A kit covers the springs and fittings alongside the linings.
VALERYD brake shoes and X-tech
VALERYD makes its own brake shoes to fit AL-KO, Knott and GSM brakes alongside the shoes we supply from those makes directly.
Our own shoes are made with X-tech. The lining is pressed onto the shoe under high force rather than glued, which is what bonded shoes use. The pressed joint holds better under load and lasts longer. To carry more of that load we run longer X ribs in the shoe, with hollow sections beside the lining so the material flows into them and compacts as it is pressed. The technique is our own.
Brake shoes
Brake shoes sit in a system with several other wear parts. When the drums are off it is worth checking brake drums, brake cables and spring kits. The same service reaches wheel bearings and brake adjusters, since they sit in the same assembly.
By brake size
Parts are also grouped by brake size: 200x50, 160x35, 200x35, 230x40 and 250x40. The first figure is the drum diameter, the second the lining width.
