VALERYD supplies 551 parts for trailer couplings and overrun brakes, from AL-KO, BPW and Knott.
On a braked trailer the coupling does two jobs. It holds the trailer to the tow ball, and it senses the trailer pushing forward when the car brakes and turns that into braking at the wheels. The range covers complete overrun brakes, coupling heads, dampers, drawbars and the smaller wearing parts inside the overrun device. Fast delivery from our own warehouse in Sweden.
Coupling parts by job
The coupling head connects to the tow ball. Behind it the overrun brake converts the push into braking force, and the parts inside it are what wear. The force then travels through the brake linkage out to the wheel brakes.
Symptoms and what they point to
A worn overrun damper shows as jerky braking, or as the trailer surging against the car on the overrun. Worn bushes and drawbars show as play in the drawbar when the trailer is uncoupled.
Safety and security
A breakaway cable applies the trailer brakes if the coupling comes off the ball, and is a legal requirement on braked trailers in most countries. Hitch locks are a separate matter and protect the trailer when it is parked.
