Parts by position
Working outwards from the axle, the wheel bearings carry the load and the hub seals keep water and dirt out of them. The wheel hub and brake drum turn on the bearings, held by a castle nut and covered by a hub cap. The wheel itself is held by wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
Signs of wear
A rumbling or whining sound that changes with speed points to a bearing. Play when the wheel is rocked by hand, or heat in the hub after a run, points the same way. A drum that is worn or out of round gives uneven braking long before it gives any noise.
Replacing in sets
Bearings and seals are replaced together, since the seal has to come out to reach the bearing. On a braked trailer the drum has to come off either way, so the brake parts are reachable at the same time.
By brake size
Parts are also grouped by brake size: 200x50, 160x35, 230x40, 250x40, 200x35, 230x60, 203x40, 200x30, 230x50, 160x40 and 170x40. The first figure is the drum diameter, the second the lining width.
