Ball studs and gas springs
The gas spring ends in a socket that clips onto the ball stud, so both figures have to be right: the ball has to suit the socket on the spring, and the thread has to suit the part the stud screws into. Take both off the stud you are replacing before ordering — a stud with the correct thread but the wrong ball will not hold the socket.
