Working with a snap hook

A carabiner is closed by a sprung gate, so a rope, chain or net can be hooked on and taken off again without tools. Keep the pull along the length of the hook rather than sideways against the gate, and stay inside the stated working load. Before you rely on it, check that the gate closes the whole way and that the spring brings it back on its own.
