Sling hooks with a latch
A sling hook is shaped so the load is taken in the seat of the hook rather than out towards the tip, and the latch closes the throat so the connection is not lifted out when the chain goes slack. The clevis is the forked end, which takes the connection between its two cheeks. Check that the latch closes fully, and take the hook out of service if it is deformed, cracked, notched or worn, or if the throat has opened up.
