Hinge eyes on a gas spring

A hinge eye is the mounting point the end of the gas spring pivots on, so it takes the whole force of the spring every time the spring is compressed or extended. The thread is what fixes it to the mounting, which is why the thread size has to match rather than be near enough. Check that the eye is not worn oval and that it is tight in its thread whenever the spring is refitted.
