Lashing points on a trailer

A lashing eye gives a strap or a rope a fixed point to pull against, so the load is carried by the eye and its bolts rather than by a body panel or a random edge. Mount it into a member that can take the pull, use fixings of the stated size, and keep inside the rating. Look the ring and the fixings over for wear or a bent shape before each trip, and replace rather than straighten anything that has pulled out of true.
