Latch and catch as a pair

A latch of this kind works against a fixed catch, so both halves have to be mounted in line with each other for the latch to close and stay closed. Fit them so the latch closes without being forced: a catch that sits too far away leaves the latch loose, and one that sits too close puts strain on the mechanism. The catch takes load every time the latch is closed and every time the body flexes on the move, so check both halves and their fixings as part of normal maintenance.
