Webbing straps around water
A strap used at a slipway or on a boat trailer gets wet, gritty and sun-exposed, and all three shorten its life. Rinse grit out of the webbing instead of leaving it in the weave, let the strap dry before it is stored rolled up, and keep it out of direct sunlight when it is not in use. Check the full length and the stitching before every use — cuts, chafed edges and melted fibres mean the strap is taken out of service. The maximum load applies to the strap alone; the weakest part of the arrangement sets the real limit.
