Fitting a mudguard over the wheel

A mudguard has to clear the tyre through the whole travel of the suspension, not only when the trailer is standing empty, so take the measurement with the axle loaded and allow for the tyre growing as it warms up. The 1550 mm length is what makes this a bogie guard: it has to reach across both wheels and the gap between them, so check the wheel centres on your trailer as well as the width and height. Plastic gives way rather than creasing when it is knocked, but check the fixings at every service, since a guard that has worked loose will sit down on the tyre.
