Nut with an M10 left-hand thread. Original number BS-8410. The smaller size in the pair is the M8 nut, article 6469001.

Left-hand threads

A left-hand nut tightens anticlockwise, the opposite way to a standard nut, and is used where a normal thread would work itself loose from the direction the part turns. It is not interchangeable with a right-hand nut of the same size: it will not run onto a right-hand thread, and forcing it damages both parts. Check which hand of thread the fixing uses before ordering, and keep left-hand and right-hand nuts apart in the toolbox.
