How a rigging screw works

Because one end is right-hand threaded and the other left-hand, turning the body draws the two ends together or lets them out without either end having to rotate. That makes it a straightforward way to take up slack in a wire or a stay. Tighten the nut against the body once the length is set, so the setting cannot turn itself loose.
