The swivel and the latch
The swivel lets the hook turn in relation to what it is attached to, so the chain can find its own line instead of being forced to take up a twist. The latch closes the throat, so the connection is not lifted out of the hook when the chain goes slack. Check that the latch closes fully and that the swivel turns freely. A hook that is deformed, cracked, notched or worn is replaced rather than repaired, and the stated maximum load is a limit, not a target.
