Brake shoes

VALERYD’s range of brake shoes for trailers, caravans, boat trailers, car transporters, and horse trailers is designed to withstand extreme loads, giving you peace of mind and safety on the road.

VALERYD Brake Shoes

Our brake shoes are manufactured using a unique technology in a specialized process where the friction lining is pressed with high force against the brake shoe. Unlike other brake shoes where the lining is glued, this method provides significantly greater durability and strength, extending the product’s lifespan.

To achieve even greater strength, we have also developed longer “X-ribs” in the main brake shoes. This X-design is hollow on the sides of the friction linings, allowing the covering material to flow into the cavities and be pressed together, further guaranteeing strength and longevity.

This technology is unique and developed by VALERYD.

Why Brake Shoes Are Important

Brake shoes are a critical part of your trailer’s braking system. They play a vital role in ensuring your safety and the safety of others on the road. VALERYD offers a comprehensive range of high-quality brake shoes to provide a safe and smooth driving experience.

What Is a Brake Shoe?

A brake shoe is a key component in your trailer’s braking system. It is mounted inside the wheel drum and generates friction against the wheel when you brake.
When you press the brake pedal, the brake shoes are pressed against the inside of the drum, creating friction that slows down the wheel. This process enables safe braking of your trailer.

How Do You Know When to Replace Brake Shoes?

Monitoring the condition of your brake shoes is essential for safety. Signs that replacement may be necessary include:

  • Wear: If the brake shoes are worn down or unevenly worn, they should be replaced.

  • Uneven braking: If the trailer pulls to one side during braking, it may indicate a failing or unevenly worn brake shoe.

  • Noise or vibration: Unusual sounds or vibrations when braking can indicate that the brake shoes need inspection or replacement.

How to Choose the Right Brake Shoe

When selecting brake shoes, consider the following factors:

  • Trailer weight: The brake shoes’ capacity should match your trailer’s total weight for effective braking.

  • Wheel drum size: Ensure compatibility with the drum diameter for a proper fit.

  • Quality: Invest in high-quality brake shoes that meet safety standards for reliable and long-lasting performance.

How Do You Know If the Brake Shoe Fits the Wheel Drum?

To ensure compatibility, measure the diameter of your wheel drum and compare it with the specifications of the brake shoes. Correct size and shape are crucial for proper installation and function.

Typical Lifespan of a Brake Shoe

The lifespan of brake shoes depends on factors such as usage frequency, load weight, and driving style. In general, brake shoes can last several thousand miles if properly maintained and inspected regularly.
However, it is essential to replace brake shoes when signs of wear appear to ensure your safety and that of others on the road.
