Straight shackles in a lifting assembly
A straight, D-shaped shackle is made for a load taken in line with the body; a load pulled sideways across the two legs is not what the rating covers. Do the screw up fully before every lift and check that it has not worked its way out. Inspect the body and the screw for wear, deformation, cracks and corrosion, and take the shackle out of use rather than trying to straighten anything that has moved. The screw is part of what is rated — an ordinary bolt of the same diameter is not a replacement.
